I come from a multi-generation, genetically ingrained business background.

With my family's guidance, I started my first business at 18; Mitchell’s Canoe, Kayak & SUP. In the year 2000, my mother (a bookkeeper) taught me how to do my company’s books. I wasn’t thrilled at first, but I became intrigued when I began to understand my financial statements. This insight showed me what I wasn’t doing well and, what was generating the higher return. Wow! I played with this knowledge and it has paid me back in spades. I confidentially knew where to focus my efforts and money.

I am a very happy business owner. This shines through to my clients. You are welcome to read Mitchell’s reviews on Google, Facebook, and TripAdvisor.

Just about to start the Powell Forest Canoe Route with extended family.

I love to learn, so I started taking university courses at our local satellite campus in my early twenties; Political Science, English Literature, Psychology, etc. I was fascinated by Psychology. Especially the child psychology modules. I decided to go to college full time. I achieved my Early Childhood Education & Infant /Toddler Citation and licenses. I found my niche within the industry and then built and ran a very successful, large licensed daycare for a decade (when my two boys were young). This business taught me how to maintain long-term client relationships and how to retain employees who understand they are the face of your business. Child care is also heavily regulated. It demands a lot of policy development / implementation. The licensing officer told me she was impressed with my policies/procedures and that she always enjoyed inspecting my licensed facility.

Out of this path grew a love of business and accounting. I thirsted for more. In  2007, I started taking CPA (Certified Public Accountant) courses (financial accounting, managerial accounting) to better understand how each business decision affected my bottom line. I then enrolled in TRU’s Business Commerce program to learn all aspects of business. These courses have not only impacted my businesses, but also my personal life. If you ever yearn for knowledge and don’t know what to study, you cannot go wrong with business courses. I took courses in digital marketing (including social media), business law, business management, personal taxation, professional writing, etc.

I then started working as a professional bookkeeper in 2010. I have experience in a variety of industries and welcome you to challenge me with yours.

“Thrive Bookkeeping” is my third business venture and the one I will take into retirement (still several decades away). I LOVE what I do! I know how to help business owners thrive. Because of my entrepreneurial background I have experience with many aspects of operating a successful business. I am also a confident public speaker and website developer. I created my Mitchell’s Canoe website on Squarespace. My clients constantly tell me how beautiful and informative it is. I created my whole presence on the web. Feel free to Google “Mitchell’s Canoe” :)

What People Are Saying

“We've recently switched accounting software to QB Desktop and I am so happy to have found a local QB Expert! Christie was able to help with what I needed quickly and so efficiently. She is professional and very knowledgeable. Along with the task she was here for, she taught me a lot of useful tips and shortcuts to make my transition to this new system easier. She also followed up our meeting with additional information for me via email. Suddenly, the task of switching all our info from one program to this new one doesn't seem so daunting knowing I can call on Christie for her expert support and information.”

— Jo-Al M

“Christie has changed the way I do business. She set my books up and taught me how to do my own mobile invoicing. I instantly thought, “Why didn’t I do this years ago”. Before that, I was hand writing slips to pass to my bookkeeper, to pay her to enter and invoice out. This new process is free, much less time consuming AND I get paid quicker. Also, I no longer have to make trips to the bookkeepers and I don’t have to give up space in my house to store years worth of company books. Love that!”

— Brad & Teresa G

“Thank You for taking on the review of our books, and the recommendations to make them easier to deal with! Christie was great to deal with, and managed our books review in record time! Thanks Again for a fabulous job.”

— Stephen J

“Christie has been the bookkeeper for my company for many years. She has always kept me organized and on time with my extensive paperwork. I was confident to face CRA inquiries knowing Christie was on top of my books. Her cheerful personality and professionalism are much appreciated. I highly recommend her professional services.”

— Marcel C

“When Christie started doing the books for our companies, there were masses of paperwork everywhere. She quickly learned each business (eight of them), brought my attention to unnecessary expenses, and streamlined all processes:

  • bill approval

  • moving every client / vendor to email

  • paying vendors by direct deposit

  • encouraging direct deposit from clients

  • depositing monies through mobile banking

and now, we are completely paperless. No more expenses for file folders, printer ink, paper, envelopes, stamps, etc. Hardly any snail mail to go through too!

I do not stress about the bookkeeping side of my business at all. Plus, Christie has reduced the time I put into paperwork by quite a bit. She is very clear-headed; on top of everything and everyone. A valuable team member!

Christie rises to a challenge. She is worth every penny.”

What you hate..….I LOVE to calculate :)

I am interested in helping your business flourish with as little or as much business support and accounting as you desire. If you want “Thrive” to do all aspects of your books, great.

But, as time passes, you may find that you have time to learn and take over some aspects. I can help you achieve that balance by meeting your needs as they change.

What is keeping you up at night? Let’s start the conversation.
