Bookkeeping & Consulting for QuickBooks

Bookkeeping

Thrive bookkeeping charges fixed monthly bookkeeping packages. No surprise bills. Ever. Certainty for both parties.

Charging by the hour is a dated method. Your business's growth benefits both of us. You shouldn't feel like the clock is running every time we communicate. Communication with your bookkeeper/accountant is paramount in making solid business decisions and saving you money. I’d rather spend my time providing higher value services than monitoring the time I spend on your file.

Thrive bookkeeping’s packages are based on the number of transactions a company typically puts through in a month, how many employees, and how many credit/bank accounts there are to reconcile.

You may be asking

What is a transaction?”:

Each invoice (to client) is 1 transaction.

Each invoice payment (received from client) is 1 transaction.

Each supplier bill is 1 transaction.

Each supplier payment is 1 transaction. (A supplier payment typically captures the entire month's worth of bills).

Each bank transaction (that is not a supplier or invoice payment) is 1 transaction.

Each credit card transaction is 1 transaction.

Flexibility in your favor:

We will revisit the package you fall under periodically as QBO reports how many transactions a company puts through in each of these areas.

Keep in mind, if you decide to do your own invoicing or bill entries, your monthly transaction count will reduce.…..

No matter what package you fall under, you will have your books up-to-date after every month.

Your year-end tax preparation bill will now be minimal too.

Full Cycle Bookkeeping ....or partial.....You decide what works for you.

You can book an appointment. We’ll use screen share and the phone so you can see what I am doing and why (to learn how to do for yourself).

Maybe you simply want to learn some basic QB skills, like:

  • how to create invoices in QBO and email them to clients

  • how to create estimates in QBO, email them to clients, and convert to an invoice (if approved by client)

  • how to input bills in QBO and efficiently pay bill / enter the payments in QBO

Beyond Bookkeeping

Any services you’d like done outside of full cycle bookkeeping will be billed by the hour as each task’s time commitment varies greatly. Typically you would request this or a governing body would demand it of your business.

The Gap is Closing between Bookkeepers and Accountants

Bookkeeping used to be limited to identifying and recording financial transactions in a systematic way. This information would be analyzed and interpreted by an accountant and then communicated to the business owner(s) through financial statements (the accountant generates) so solid business decisions could be made.

But, this gap is closing due to accounting (bookkeeping) software. What were traditionally accounting duties, are now available to the business owner at the bookkeeping level.

This software not only generates all the basic financial reports, but highly customized reports too. Just tell your bookkeeper what it is you want to know. For example, “I will need to know how much profit [a particular] project generates”, or “What in particular caused the profit”, or perhaps you want your different revenue streams to be accounted for separately with their associated expenses so you know what division is generating the most profit and why. Software today is capable of all this. Just be sure that your bookkeeper is familiar with the program’s capabilities.

In Canada, the government does not mandate bookkeeping education. For accountants, it does. This alone, makes it important to pick a bookkeeper that has solid references (work experience) and education in bookkeeping, or better yet, accounting.

Typically, small to medium businesses only hire an accountant for the year end filings. This is fine, but it is wise to talk to your accountant when your annual revenue noticeably jumps and before you make any changes in operation. Their knowledge will likely save you more than they cost.
